The importance of nutrition can be easily overlooked at times. Our new middle school nutrition class is working to combat that. Christy White, Child Nutrition Director, is working with students to teach them the importance of eating healthy in a fun, educational way.
Students are learning what it takes to create menus while also following nutritional guidelines. They are also learning where their food comes from, how it is grown, the difference between fruits and vegetables, the importance of caloric intake, as well as the significance of nutritional values. Hands-on experience in the kitchen has resulted in students learning important information in a fun and engaging environment. Just last week, they competed in a bake-off and hosted Superintendent Derryberry as a judge. While the boy's team came out on top, it is safe to say that fun was had by all!
